National Policies and Strategies

> Australian Government policies for heritage These policies are published by the Australian Heritage Commission - a statutory body of the Commonwealth Government, administered by the Department of the Environment and Heritage.
> Ministerial Councils These councils cooperate on and coordinate matters relating to the development of the arts and culture in Australia.
> Return of Indigenous Cultural Property (RICP) Program The aim of this program is to repatriate all ancestral remains and secret sacred objects from the eligible museums to their communities of origin.
> Contemporary Visual Arts and Craft Inquiry The inquiry looked at key issues impacting on the sustainability, development and promotion of the contemporary visual arts and craft sector and analysed a range of options to enhance its future.
> Distributed National Collections Program The sum of all of the widely distributed collections of Australian Cultural Heritage material is known as the Distributed National Collection.
> Key needs A Study into the Key Needs of Collecting Institutions in the Heritage Sector, 1 May 2002. Available as a series of pdf documents.
> National Museum Of Australia Review of Exhibitions and Public Programs The Review (complete in July 2003) examined the aims and content of the NMA's exhibitions and programs, as well as considering priorities for future development.
> Caring for our culture National guidelines for museums, galleries and keeping places.
> Heritage Collections in Australia: a plan for a new partnership produced by the Heritage Collections Working Group, 1993
> National Preservation strategy Cultural Ministers Council Heritage Collections Council 1998.
> Tourism with integrity best practice strategies for cultural and heritage organisation in the tourism industry from the Department of Communications Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA).
